Founded in 1961, The University of Sussex was the first of the new wave UK universities. Today Sussex is an internationally recognised research institution, ranked 13th in the UK, 34th in Europe and 110 in the world (Times Higher World University Rankings 2012-13). Surrounded by the South Downs National Park and minutes from the seaside city of Brighton and Hove, Sussex is home to 13,000 students and more than 2,500 faculty and staff from 120 countries. Sussex has counted three Nobel Prize winners, 13 Fellows of the Royal Society, six Fellows of the British Academy and a winner of the prestigious Crafoord Prize on its faculty.
